Family Visit: Day 4: Suwon city (Hwaseong Fortress, KBS Drama center, Korean Folk Village

the view of Suwon city frm West Watch Tower of Hwaseong Fortress

Heyo...... sorry havent been updating the blog for sometime... hehehe!! went out playing for the whole wk... cos ITS SCHOOL HOLIDAY! but... sad its over already now is back to study n in LEVEL 2!!!! Must STUDY HARD HARD loh............ >_<

Back to the visit in Kr..... So nw is the 4th day... PLanned to bring my parents to Suwon city, a city just alittle outskirt of Seoul city.... a city wif lots of historical buildings etc... I have been to Suwon during my last visit and had really enjoyed myself hence I would want to bring my parents there too...

So early in the morning, we took the subway to Suwon city.... Took about 1 and a half hrs to reach there....... So we went on a tour.... sad that the tour tat i had been to is no longer in operation liao... bt anyway, we took another similar tour... main focus is to view the Hwaseong Fortress, let my dad experienced the krn archery, my mum to try on the Hanbok (krn traditional costumes), bring them to see things tat they can relate frm the krn dramas they watched hahaha etc

So we bought the Tour package which took abt 2 1/2 hrs ard the fortress and we moved on to the Korean Folk Village on our own.

Even though, its my 2nd time visitin Suwon, I had different experiences and also visited the different parts of the Hwaseong fortress.... This is really GREAT, i felt that their tourism is really great cos they had made it so that even if you visited it before there is bound to have different tings... So i tink i didnt waste my $$ to pay for the tour once again...

the different things i had experienced throughout this visit to Suwon:

-the west watching tower of Hwaseong Fortress (only opened to public jus one month ago): frm here you can see almost the whole Suwon city

-Saw the Fillal Bell (finally!!! i saw it!, i didnt get to visit it the other time i came)

-the KBS Center (a new attraction added into the itinerary, Suwon mayor is trying to add in the media influences to make Suwon city a more vibrant place instead of the old tinking tat its a HISTORICAL site...): everything minature in it... so cute... its so RETRO i bet Jo will like it here....

-Martial Arts trial performance at Hwaseong Haenggung: the demostration of the 24 martial arts from [Muye Dobo Tongji] which contains excellent martial arts of Korea or adopted from China and Japan.... (sm events to make the historical site a more happening place)

-the influence of korean DRAMA "大长今" and kr movie "왕의 남자" can be STRONGLY sensed in Hwaseong Haenggung!!! They have added in lots n lots of info. related to 大长今 on displays... Nw i can really sense how GREAT the influence of MEDIA is to tourism!! Ranges frm the costumes 大长今 wore to the exact location that the drama was flimed in the palace were all highlighted.... of cos 왕의 남자 were also highlighted here... (it was nt so prominent the last time i came)

-of cos the different in seasons played a part too.... the scenery, the trees, flowers etc were all different

-at the Krn Folk Village, the see-saw stunts had been improved wif more difficult stunts.... (i can see their efforts!!) and of cos the MUST SEE horse stunts (sorry ah there is a proper name for it bt i forgotten wat is it liao... :P) I had missed it the other time as we were rushin off to watch sm other ting... (that's the bad ting about following a tour rush here n there like beesss)

Hui if you are reading tis, MAKE SURE u go back to KFV to watch tat horse stunts DAMN STYLO!!!!!!

-i didnt realise or its jus opened!? there is an amusement park in the Korean Folk Village?! n knw wat?! there is a haunted hse too... bt i didnt go in ah... cos i still dunno hw does a kr ghost looked like so beta dun scare myself out man.... hahah

its kind of pity, cos this new tour had removed the visitin of Prince Sado's tomb and the temple.... which i tink were equally interesting too...

And last bt not least, I like this city so much becos of the story behind it.... a nice story about King Jeongjo's fillal towards his late father (Prince Sado). According to the history bks, when King Jeongjo was young he had seen hw his father suffered before he passed away even before he was crowned the King. Therefore King Jeongjo wanted his late father to rest in peace, he ordered to move the tomb of his late father to Suwon and even built a temporary palace in Suwon so he can visit his late father. King Jeongjo will visit his father's tomb in Suwon once a year bringin with him a large troops of army etc.... BEcos of his fillal towards his late father, ppl were touched and hence ppl helped to take care of the tomb of the late Prince Sado.

These r jus bits n pieces of the story I picked up frm the tour guide.... Just hope tat i can get my hands on the history bks to fully understand wat is the story behind hw Prince Sado's sufferings etc. I was told that the history bks r all in krn hence i have to brush up on my krn first :P

FOR ppl who love HISTORY, u have got to visit SUwon if you are visitin Kr!

Family Visit: Day 3 Changdeokgung & Huwon and nite at Namsan Tower

After a hectic and tiring day at Everland... The following day, I had planned to visit the Palace... Initially had wanted my family to visit at least 2 Palaces... as they r around the same area.... But who knwS wat gotten into me!! I didnt checked properly and the other Palace is closed on TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe I made such a stupid MISTAKE!!! I cant forgive myself for being so stupid.... check the route, price n everything... except the closing day of the Palace...!!!! aarrggghh..... I tink I become stupid after studyin hahaha...

But luckily the Palace which I want my parents to see is open.... So we bought the tickets and waited for the tour guide. At ChangDeokgung, they have specific tour guides for the different language and you are required to follow the tour... Noone is allow to walk on their own.... They have security guards at each station to make sure that the tour members dun wonder off by themselves while the tour guide is busy explaining... I guess this is to prevent people from destroying the precious things in the Palace.... I had learnt from school that many of the historical sites were damaged by tourist (irresponsible tourists) and I can understand why they have to be so strict in ChangDeokGung....

The tour took about 2 1/2 hrs... WAlking up and down slopes... climbing up hills etc.... Guess its a bit tiring for my mum... :P so we rested after exiting frm the tour....

That night we went to Namsan Tower (Seoul Tower). It is an observatory tower on top of Namsan. This is also my first time up the Namsan Tower so its really exciting... First of all, we need to hike up the steep slope to the cable car station at the bottom of Namsan.... After which, we took the cable car up........

Gosh the cable car was so scary!! They squeeze like more than 20 ppl in it?! and its shaking as we moved up the mountain!!!! The cable car is something like the one at Genting Highland... (Those kpop drama craze will knw if you had watched My name is Kim Sam Soon, this is the cable car that Hyun Bin and the lead actress went up on)

Soon we reached... Out of the cable car station, we saw this steep stairs.......... Gosh... I tell u, if you dun have stamina then i think u beta dun visit Korea man... So many steep slopes etc.... My mum slowly went up the stairs accompanyin by my sis while me and my dad sped up.... We paid for the tickets and went up the observatory... On top of Seoul tower, you can view a splendid VIEW of Seoul in the night.... BEAUTIFUL!!!

However, I guess its really beautiful if you view it with your own eyes.... pictures dun turn out tat nice......... And man its really worth all the climbing etc.... it is really the best place to view the whole of SEOUL.... It was also noted that on a clear sky in the day, you might even be able to see North Korea from there!!

Family visit: Day 2 Everland (Rose garden)

wow wow.... my mum love FLOWERs so i decided to bring them to EVerland... cos they having flowers paradize within this period of time... n it so happen to be the rose garden during this season....

So we went there n of cos went to c the mini zoo in Everland... (the one I had been to before and was totally amazed by it). It has a tagline tat say "the only zoo in the world where tigers n lions co-exist in the same habitat"

If you love tigers, lions n bear and wished to see them upclose, I would strongly suggest that u take this trip into this mini-zoo... its worth ur time n money... the bears will sit, stand, wave n turn ard with commands frm the driver....

They have also had a new attraction which is the monkey enclosure.... of cos this can nv compare with our singapore zoo bt their Orang Utan do sky rope walkin jus above us! cool rite?!

Afterwhich, we stayed for the nite parade... its really COOL cos its so beautiful wif all the glittering lights.. on the parade cars and dresses!! So if u r visitin Everland, do not miss out the night parade!!! bt sad to say, we cant wait for the olympus laser show as its kind of late.

Guess picture speaks a thousand words.... Here you can view them...
at the mini zoo

As mentioned in my earlier post my family came over to Korea to visit me.... Hehehe... the 2nd time my whole family went overseas together... the 1st time was when i was pri 5, we went to genting.... tat's also my first experience onboard a plane...

My family came on Sunday (10 June 07), I went to the airport to pick them up (hahah my first experience of picking someone up at the airport!)....flight arriving at 1525 hrs bt they took a hell of time... I was so worried I thought they kena checked for the food they brought in... cos apparently Kr is kind of strict on food items bringing into kr....

Afterwhich, we took a cab to the service apartment which I have reserved for them.... a nice apartment... cosy n have a small kitchen... equipped wif pots, pans, chopsticks, bowls.... Its ok if u jus wan to have a room to stay n cook... bt for the price dun expect to-the-door service like a five star hotels.... hehehe...

Since my family jus came so i decided maybe jus bring them ard Sinchon area and also to show my school to them... of cos treat them to some korean cuisine. Not too tiring since they have just arrived on plane this afternoon...
n of cos besides them visiting me and touring in Korea, they have also brought me LOTS n lots OF SINGAPORE delicacies..... my milo, pork floss, ba gua, kaya etc...

Movie SNEAK preview: HWANG JIN YI 황진이 -starring Song Hye Gyo 송혜교, Yoo Ji Tae유지태

hahaha.... lucky lucky again! After my last exam papers on Monday 4 Jun 07, me an tiff planned to look for 하숙집 (boarding house) as our stay wif the sch dormintory will end on 14 Jun 07. We had decided nt to continue stayin at the sch dorm becos its quite expensive, further more meals r not provided... Worst of all, cos the I-house is nt intended for students studying at KLI so if we want to continue to stay in the I-house we have to move to Muak Dormintory for about 1 month then move back to the I-house.... Cos the I-house will be occupied by the exchange students during summer term....so we will have to get out n move back once they r gone... ridiculous rite?!!

k so with that, we planned to look ard the sch first before expanding our search to Sinchon area. While waiting for tiff at the dorm's lobby, I read the noticeboard.... HAHAHA guess wat?! there's a notice tat says catch Song Hye Go LIVE at YongSan CGV today... FREE movie preview tickets available for 1st 30 ppl who request for it at the dorm's office.

I saw the poster of this movie and it seems quite nice so I am abit tempted to watch it... so i asked Tiff if she wants to watch it too? Of cos she said yes.... So we made our way to the office to ask for the tickets... afterwhich we went for lunch n proceed to Yongsan (yes familar place ah... the place we bought our mobiles...)

Were kind of there early so we walked ard in the shopping mall... as usual walked into the records store.... Found e DVD tat Ee Fen wants.... Saw my Seodongyeo DVD bt man its sky high pricing!!! i wished i won lottery so i can buy tat!

at the counter... i was so tempted so i asked the auntie... can u give me posters? (in kr) then she was like poster of this movie?? I was quick to say "No... Singers posters...."

She gladly replied wif a YES and asked me whose posters I wan...... I was so happy hahaha... of cos telling her all my idols........ Shinhwa (tat's for sure), SS501 (so lucky she has one last piece), Tony (new single poster!!).... I guess I am helpin her to clear her stocks... so she gladly giving them all to me....

Afterwhich, i asked if she has Evan's poster... n she said yes bt its very big.... So i said nvm thinkin tat its ok if we can roll it up... so she gotten her staff to take it out.... we waited n was shocked!! its really GIANT SIZE man....... maybe bigger than our windoW! so we thanked her n left the shop....

Went over to exchange for our movie tickets...... Soon the movie is starting so we went to buy popcorn and coke... preparin ourselves for the movie... Its my first time in Korea watching Movie!! so kind of exciting.... This movie is supported by the KNTO so there r english subtitles....

Just before the movie, the main leads and director of the movie will make a special appearance to thank us for being there and hope that we enjoy the movie...

Song Hye Gyo looked so peitie... bt plain... She looked so sweet when she smiled.... Man she is really short.... She was wearing heels... bt still look so short....

Yoo Ji Tae is jus the opposite of SHG, he is so extremely TALL!! jus like a giant besides SHG.... Bt he looked so charmastic in person and was so gentlemanly when leading SHG in n out of the cinema theatre...

Some pics I took:

Sypnosis:

Hwang Jini is the movie adaptation of the 2002 novel by North Korean writer and calligrapher Hong Suk Joong홍석중 about the popular gisaeng and shijo who lived in the Joseon dynasty, Hwang Jini. Hwang Jini/Hwang Jin Yi/Hwang Chini(1522-1565) was a gisaeng(a Korean term similar to a Geisha) that lived in the Joseon( or Chosun) dynasty during the reign of King JungJong (16th century). She was also known by her other name Myeongwol (or Myungwol) meaning Bright Moon. According to books, novels written by, for, and about her, she is considered to be a very intelligent woman, charming, very attractive and ambitious.Little is known about her childhood but she is known to be a daughter of a gisaeng(the actual name of her mother is still debated), also actually there are only few facts known about her life, however she is very well 'described' in anecdotes, biographies etc. She was tutored by the great scholar So Kyong Dok on poetry in both Korean script (Hanguel) and in Hanmun (Chinese)

My review:

Personally I didnt really enjoy the movie storyline that much cos its too diverse... There is no main focus in the storyline. However, I should praise the gd acting skills of both the lead actor n actress. Both were really great in their acting... Fighting scenes were great too... Costumes and settings of the movie were a very big plus point to this movie... Totally make the movie enjoyable despite a bad storyline...

I do not knw if the watching of "Memories of Geisha" had made me compare both of the movie... bt i guess it do have some effects on my opinion of this movie... It did nt focus so much on hw Hwang Jin Yi went thru to become wat she is nw, didnt emphasis on hw gREAt she becum (so if i didnt read up abt this person, from the movie I would nt bt able to understand nor agree to hw great she was and wat make her famous till these days), it also didnt focus of her love as well....So 主题是什么? That's the reason y i said the story did not have a main focus... For a movie its kind of long abt 2.5 hrs....

So far only tiff said the movie is GREAT... (which i dunno y?!). Most of the ppl I asked was sayin that the movie is kind of boring n draggy.... perhaps the drama had also made an impression in many n ppl r starting to compare it....

My ratings: 2.5 on a scale of 5 (1=boring- 5=MUST WATCH)

But if u r a fan of either of the leads, then perhaps you will enjoy the movie... They both presented excellent acting skills........
